Humane World for Animals (HWA), an international animal protection organization, rescued the dogs on Sept. 30 from a dog meat farm in Gangjin, South Jeolla Province. Following the adoption process, the dogs are expected to be placed with new families in the United States and Canada next year.

The Korea Daily previously worked with HWA in 2022 on a special reporting series focused on efforts to end the dog meat trade in South Korea.

South Korea enacted a law banning the dog meat industry in 2024. The law is scheduled to take effect in February next year.

The latest Korean dog meat farm rescue comes as the country moves closer to implementing the nationwide ban and the rescued dogs prepare for a new start in the United States.
