South Korean teachers LA visits allowed elementary and middle school educators to lead Korean language and traditional culture education programs for local students.
The Korean Education Center in Los Angeles (Director Lee Byung-seung), in cooperation with the Jeonnam-Gwangju Unified Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Dae-jung), announced the successful completion of the ‘2026 Outstanding Educator Teaching Exchange Program.’
A total of eight educatorsโfour elementary and four middle school teachers selected by the education officeโparticipated in the program. From November 5 to 15, they conducted Korean language and cultural experience classes at elementary, middle, and high schools across the LA area.
The teachers hosted a Hangeul Day commemoration event at Marlborough School, featuring Hangeul calligraphy, hanbok wearing, and traditional craft workshops. At Larchmont Charter School (Rise, and local middle and high schools), they led sessions on traditional Korean games and crafts.
At Hancock Park Elementary School, the educators introduced traditional Korean holidays and food culture, including Chuseok and Lunar New Year, alongside experiential activities like dakji-chigi and top-spinning. Korean and American teachers also discussed current educational issues, such as classroom management and bilingual learner support.
Director Lee Byung-seung stated, “This exchange went beyond simple cultural experiences, serving as an opportunity to foster global citizenship among local students and elevate Korea-U.S. educational cooperation to the next level.”
