New Korean town Texas Development Announced in Leander
A large-scale Asian commercial district reminiscent of a Korean town Texas is coming to the Austin suburbs. According to local media outlet MySA on September 24, real estate developer Northline Leander plans to build ‘The Market District,’ a shopping and dining space themed around Korean and Asian culture in Leander, Williamson County.
Project Details and Opening Timeline
The Market District will be developed on a 30,000-square-foot site within the expansive 116-acre Northline mixed-use development project, with an official opening targeted for 2028. The development will primarily feature Korean and other Asian businesses, including various restaurants and retail shops, while remaining open to other industries to provide a comprehensive shopping and dining experience.
Samsung Plant Impact and Asian Population Growth in Williamson County
Leander is located about 27 miles north of Austin. Developers noted that the proximity of Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor plant served as a major catalyst for the project. Alex Tintner, founder of Northline Leander, stated that the influx of the Samsung plant and its related businesses sparked significant interest from the South Korean market.
According to U.S. Census Bureau data, the Asian population in Williamson County—where the Samsung facility is situated—has more than tripled over the past decade. The Asian resident population surged from approximately 35,000 in 2015 to around 106,900 by 2025.
