LACDMH Peer Resource Center Opens

A resource center providing programs for mentally ill patients in the Korean community has launched in L.A. Koreatown. Any resident of the L.A. County is eligible to receive services from the newly launched resource center.

The Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health (LACDMH) officially announced the opening of the Peer Resource Center (PRC) at 560 South Vermont Avenue in L.A. Koreatown on May 1.

Jonathan Sherin, director of mental health at the LACDMH, attended the launching party with L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas. The employees of the PRC also attended the event to explain their duties to look after local residents who have been affected by various mental illnesses.

The LACDMH added that the PRC will provide the following; โ–ถIntroductory counseling for mental health treatment โ–ถCounseling for alcohol and other substance abusers โ–ถFree programs and welfare center introduction โ–ถHomeless shelter โ–ถIntroducing patients to other mental health facilities at no cost.

โ€œThe PRC will be hugely helpful to Koreans whose rate of depression has remained high for a long time,โ€ said counseling Jeong-young Ahn. โ€œAnyone who has needed counseling or have questions about our free programs can visit us.โ€

The PRC is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.
