LAPD Launches Major DUI Checkpoint Operation
The LAPD DUI checkpoint initiative has been officially announced, targeting drivers across Los Angeles, including the densely populated Koreatown area, from September 23 to 27. The Los Angeles Police Department is setting up sobriety checkpoints and intensifying patrols in high-traffic corridors known for frequent alcohol- and drug-related traffic incidents.
Koreatown DUI Checkpoint Locations and Schedule
For drivers navigating Koreatown, two simultaneous DUI checkpoints will operate on Friday, September 25, from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM at Olympic Boulevard & Westmoreland Avenue, as well as Western Avenue & 8th Street. Additional checkpoints are scheduled throughout the week, including Florence Avenue and Main Street on Thursday, Van Nuys Boulevard and Glenoaks Boulevard on Friday, and Sunset Boulevard and Coronado Street on Saturday. Sunday will feature concentrated patrols in the Foothill and Devonshire areas.
Penalties and Legal Warnings
Law enforcement officials strongly warn drivers that impairment extends beyond alcohol to prescription drugs, cold medicine, and legalized marijuana, all of which remain illegal under driving-under-the-influence laws. A first-time DUI conviction can result in severe legal and financial penalties, including fines and fees totaling up to $13,500 along with driver’s license suspension.
