The City of Las Vegas is launching a unique holiday program that allows drivers to pay select Las Vegas parking ticket fines by donating toys instead of cash.
According to the City of Las Vegas, parking tickets issued between October 1 and November 13 can be settled by donating a new toy of equal or greater value to the fine. The donated items must be brand new and unwrapped.
All collected toys will be given to Chicanos Por La Causa, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping homeless families transition into permanent housing.
Donations are being accepted through December 14 at the Las Vegas Parking Services office. However, contributors must make their donations within 30 days of receiving the ticket and provide a valid purchase receipt.
Drivers also have the option to purchase toys online and ship them directly to the Parking Services office. For online purchases, the parking ticket number must be included in the delivery memo.
Eligible donation items include family board games such as Candy Land, Monopoly, Clue, Connect 4, Jenga, and Uno, as well as gift cards, age-appropriate toys ranging from newborns to 18 years old, and small gifts.
Qualifying parking violations include meter expiration, time limit violations, abandoned vehicles, bus and taxi zone infractions, commercial loading zone violations, missing registration tags, parking after park hours, occupying two parking spaces, and long-term parking exceeding 72 hours. The city noted that certain other violations may also qualify.
