A tourist visiting the Las Vegas showgirl attack scene suffered a severe 2-inch forehead wound after being beaten with a high heel by a showgirl demanding an exorbitant tip following a photo session.
According to local media reports, the incident occurred on the evening of September 30 in front of the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on the Las Vegas Strip. Two tourists from North Carolina posed for souvenir photos with three individuals dressed in elaborate showgirl costumes.
Although the tourists initially tipped $20 as a friendly gesture, one of the showgirls, identified as Jennifer Ortiz, aggressively pursued them and demanded an unreasonable payment ranging between $60 and $180, ultimately escalating into a violent physical altercation.
Police reports indicate that Ortiz repeatedly struck one of the victims and eventually removed her white high-heeled boot, using it to smash the victim’s forehead. Surveillance footage reviewed by law enforcement captured the victim being subjected to a prolonged and one-sided assault.
A male companion who attempted to intervene and break up the fight was also assaulted, sustaining facial injuries and bleeding. Both victims received emergency medical treatment at the scene but declined to be transported to a hospital, later submitting formal statements demanding strict punishment for the attackers.
Law enforcement officers arrested Ortiz alongside another suspect, Magdalena Romero. Ortiz faces charges including battery and petty larceny for amounts under $1,200, while Romero was charged with battery. Investigators noted that Ortiz had a previous court order from March warning her against further unlawful conduct following a similar extortion incident on Fremont Street.
Authorities and local officials continue to warn visitors and Korean tourists strolling along the Las Vegas Strip and downtown areas to exercise extreme caution when interacting with street performers, as these unauthorized photo opportunities frequently lead to aggressive tip extortion schemes and unexpected safety hazards.
