No More Green Light: Lee Mujin Lawsuit Seeks to Cancel Agency Contract Over Unpaid Millions

It looks like the “Traffic Light” has officially turned red for singer-songwriter Lee Mujin’s relationship with his agency. In a move that has sent shockwaves through the K-entertainment industry, a high-stakes Lee Mujin lawsuit has been set into motion, with the star demanding to sever ties over a massive stack of missing paychecks.

On Wednesday morning, May 27, the Seoul Central District Court held its first hearing regarding Lee’s application for an injunction to suspend his exclusive contract with Big Planet Made Entertainment. The reason behind the sudden legal battle? Lee claims the agency failed to pay him his rightful settlement fees for over a year, leaving a staggering 2.1 billion won (approximately $1.53 million) missing from his bank account.

Over a Year in the Dark: Where is the Money?

According to Lee’s legal representative, the singer did not receive his hard-earned settlement payments for the second, third, and fourth quarters of last year, as well as the first quarter of this year. Essentially, for more than 12 months, the chart-topping artist was performing, broadcasting, and making music without being properly compensated.

Fed up with the radio silence, Lee formally notified Big Planet Made of his intention to terminate his contract back in March, followed by the official injunction filing on May 7. “The contract termination has already been notified, so the matter is effectively over, but we are seeking an official ruling from the court to make it final,” his legal team stated, adding that they are also preparing a separate Lee Mujin lawsuit to claim every single penny of the outstanding 2.1 billion won.

Big Planet Made’s Response and the 3-Week Ultimatum

Surprisingly, Big Planet Made Entertainment has expressed that they are willing to accept Lee’s request to suspend the contract. However, they expressed bitterness over the timing, hinting that it felt disheartening for an artist to leave the moment the company faced financial difficulties.

Seeing room for a smoother exit, the court has granted both parties a three-week window to reach a mutual agreement on the contract termination. If mediation fails, the full-blown legal warfare will resume.

This dramatic Lee Mujin lawsuit comes at a turbulent time for Big Planet Made, which has recently faced similar contract friction and departures from other high-profile artists, making headlines across the K-pop landscape.

Lee Mujin first captured the public’s heart after winning third place on JTBC’s hit audition show Sing Again in 2020, later skyrocketing to superstardom with his mega-hit “Traffic Light” (2021) and his 2025 release “Bird On The Edge.” Fans are now rallying behind the artist, hoping he can quickly navigate this legal roadblock and get back to doing what he does best: making incredible music.
