LG Electronics has joined hands with Apple to target the LG Apple AI Home market. LG Electronics announced on October 14 that it held a new product launch event with Apple in New York, US, on October 13 (local time). The new lineup consists of 7 Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including two indoor cameras, two outdoor cameras, a doorbell, a smart door lock, a thermostat, and a temperature sensor. The two companies explained that they have been cooperating closely since the initial product conceptualization stage. Manufactured by LG and sold under the LG brand, the products are scheduled to launch first in North America, including the US and Canada, and the UK within the year.

What LG Electronics is aiming for is the expansion of the AI home ecosystem. By adding the new IoT products to its existing AI home appliances, the AI home hub ‘ThinQ On’, and the ‘ThinQ’ platform, LG plans to strengthen its capabilities for managing homes inside and out. It also aims to expand customer touchpoints by integrating with Apple’s ecosystem, which boasts over 2.5 billion active devices worldwide. Apple can similarly expand its smart home product lineup while reducing the burden of manufacturing and management.

The new products are compatible with both LG ThinQ and Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad, allowing users to check and control device statuses even while away from home.

The thermostat links with the iPhone and Apple Watch to analyze user movement patterns, times of day, and weather to adjust heating and cooling. The smart door lock uses multiple sensors to detect movement and entry intent, unlocking automatically without manual operation and notifying users of open doors, tampering attempts, or unauthorized access.

The outdoor cameras and doorbell distinguish between people, animals, vehicles, and deliveries to send context-aware notifications, while the indoor camera detects baby crying or glass-breaking sounds to deliver customized alerts. For security, the devices apply LG’s security solution ‘LG Shield’ and Apple’s data encryption technology.

Jeong Ki-hyun, Executive Vice President and Head of LG Electronics HS Platform Business Center, stated, “By combining LG Electronics’ expertise in home appliances and living spaces, Apple’s unrivaled user experience, and the strong security capabilities of both companies, we will provide a safe and intuitive AI home experience.”
