The United States Congress has requested Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to attend a closed-door joint briefing to explain his relationship with a woman suspected of being a Chinese spy. Nvidia maintains that their contact was limited to routine professional interactions and that no national security information was compromised.
Congressional Scrutiny on Nvidia Security
According to Axios, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Brian Mast, House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party Chairman John Moolenaar, and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rick Crawford sent a letter to Huang requesting his attendance at the joint briefing. The lawmakers asked for a detailed explanation of Nvidia’s security protocols designed to protect the company from foreign adversaries, as well as the nature of interactions with Alice Huang.
The letter stated that recent reports raise serious national security concerns regarding China’s potential access to sensitive US technology and information, emphasizing that it is vital for Congress to understand the extent to which US national security may be at risk.
Identity of Alice Huang and Industry Ties
Alice Huang is a senior executive at Megaspeed, a Singapore-headquartered data center company. In June 2024, she was photographed sitting next to Jensen Huang at a bar in Taipei, Taiwan, drinking with executives from other artificial intelligence companies. She was also spotted with Huang in May of the previous year. Reports indicate that Alice Huang leveraged photos taken with the Nvidia CEO on social media to showcase their relationship and potentially raise investment capital.
Media Reports and Official Stances
Previously, The New York Times reported that Alice Huang maintained a close relationship with Jensen Huang and faced allegations of leaking information to China. President Donald Trump was reportedly briefed on the matter by intelligence officials, though no specific action was taken at the time. The Wall Street Journal also reported that officials from at least three countries have expressed concern that Alice Huang may have leaked sensitive information regarding Nvidia chips to the Chinese government.
Nvidia has denied all related allegations but has not yet issued an official statement regarding the House committee’s request for attendance. The Chinese government has previously dismissed allegations of Chinese espionage targeting Nvidia as unfounded speculation.
