Orange County stabbing incidents have shocked the local community after a 45-year-old man was killed by a knife-wielding attacker in Stanton. The suspect was captured following a high-speed vehicle pursuit.
Stanton Stabbing Incident Details
According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal incident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on June 25 near Beach Boulevard and Chapman Avenue in Stanton. Dispatchers received multiple emergency calls reporting a man chasing another individual while wielding a blade.
Deputies arrived at the scene to find the victim suffering from severe injuries. He was subsequently identified as 45-year-old Joshua Lee Long. Long was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Suspect Arrested After Vehicle Pursuit
Before deputies could secure the scene, the suspect fled in a vehicle. Eyewitnesses provided authorities with a detailed vehicle description and license plate information. Using advanced license plate reader technology, investigators quickly located the suspect’s vehicle nearby.
The identified suspect, 22-year-old Charles Matthew Swanson, refused to pull over when signaled by sheriff’s deputies, triggering a pursuit. The chase ended when Swanson crashed his vehicle and was taken into custody at the scene.
Swanson has been booked into the Orange County Jail on murder charges.
