Actress Park Kyung-hye recently captured viewers’ attention with her brilliant visual transformation and chilling acting in the Netflix series ‘Honey Part-Time Job’.
In the series released on the 30th, Park played a parade manager at the Neoworld amusement park. By combining a flashy appearance with a uniquely nonchalant tone and unpredictable attitude, she drove the eerie atmosphere of episodes 7 and 8.
‘Honey Part-Time Job’ is a survival-style horror series set in a suspicious employment agency that offers high-paying part-time jobs starting at 50 times the hourly wage, where youth Hyeok-jun (played by Lee Jae-wook) is thrown into a nightmare work environment. Amidst unfamiliar workplaces and strong-willed characters in each episode, Park stood out as a figure who turned the amusement parkโa symbol of joyโinto a space of terror.
Her transformation grabbed attention from her very first appearance. She expressed the vibrant energy of a parade manager through flashy makeup reminiscent of an amusement park character, a bright smile, exaggerated hand gestures, and cheerful chanting. However, her skillful guidance of Hyeok-jun carried a suspicious undertone. Her one-sided attitude disguised as kindness and strange atmosphere highlighted the character’s dubious nature.
Above all, Park seized the scene with her acting, instantly turning a joyful atmosphere into spine-chilling horror. Her attitude of enjoying even dangerous situations as if they were part of a performance only heightened anxiety, while her persistent gaze and sudden shift to cold expressions created intense tension. She maximized the bizarre charm of her character by infusing cruelty disguised as a fondness for fear within a bright and cheerful tone.
Her expression of shifting emotions was equally impressive. From leisurely directing the parade to forcibly enforcing rules, and finally exploding in anger when things did not go her way, Park delicately distinguished between nonchalant guidance, coercive instructions, and passionate shouts, completing a parade manager whose character remained utterly unpredictable.
Having showcased distinct characters in various works such as the films ‘Handsome Guys’ and ‘Lobby’, and dramas ‘Moving’, ‘I Hate Cutlets’, and ‘Lee Hee-soo, Class 2’, Park clearly displayed her own color once again in ‘Honey Part-Time Job’. By adding bold visual changes, vivid facial acting, and rhythmic line delivery, she left a strong impression despite her short appearances. Her broad character digestion, revealing a new face with each project, shone brightly once more.
Beyond her acting, her friendly charm outside of work is also gaining public attention. She met viewers through MBC’s ‘I Live Alone’ with realistic single-person living, an unadorned daily life, and positive energy, while also sharing mundane daily life honestly through her personal YouTube channel ‘Kyung-hye, Will You Watch?’, conveying a different kind of charm.
