Comedian Park Myung-soo chicken business history has become a hot topic as he recently revealed a bizarre dine-and-dash incident from his past.
During an upcoming broadcast of KBS2’s ‘The Boss Has Donkey Ears’, Park opens up about the days when he ran a highly successful chicken restaurant in Yeouido, Seoul. Showing true dedication to his business, he used to ride a delivery motorcycle himself, helping his franchise achieve the number one spot in nationwide sales with an impressive annual revenue of 1.2 billion won.
Park recalled a time when a male and female couple ordered 45,000 won worth of fried chicken and beer before vanishing without paying. He noticed a bag left behind at the table and assumed they had simply gone to the restroom, only to discover later that the bag was stuffed entirely with bundles of newspaper, stunning everyone on set.
Chef Jung Ji-sun also chimed in with her own shocking story, sharing that during an extremely busy day, a group of customers left without paying, which she only discovered later after reviewing CCTV footage. Meanwhile, Yang Jun-hyuk drew laughter by boasting about his own foolproof security method, stating that he always personally guards the cash register at his restaurant to prevent any dine-and-dash incidents entirely.
The episode also introduces Michelin 1-star chef Shim Sung-chul, who operates seven successful concepts in New York City, including the Korean fine dining restaurant ‘Cote’, hand-roll bar ‘Marée’, and steakhouse ‘Gooey’. Shim revealed that his Times Square location alone has a monthly rent of approximately 100 million won, with total monthly rent for all seven of his New York establishments reaching roughly 175 million won.
