An investigation is underway in Santa Ana after approximately Pokemon and sports cards stolen worth $1 million were taken from a delivery vehicle.
Theft from FedEx Truck in Santa Ana
According to the Santa Ana Police Department, the incident occurred on the 13th when a FedEx truck was parked near the facility of PSA, a collectibles grading and authentication company. While the driver was away for about an hour, suspects broke the vehicle’s locks and stole approximately 250 packages.
The stolen items consisted of cards sent in by collectors nationwide for authentication that were being returned to their owners. The losses include more than 1,000 cards in total, featuring ultra-rare "One-of-One" cards issued in single quantities worldwide. Just 200 of the stolen packages accounted for an estimated $963,000 in value, with the remainder still being tallied.
Measures Taken by PSA and Collector Losses
In response to the theft, PSA immediately invalidated the serial numbers and certificates of the stolen cards, notifying major trading platforms and auction houses to block the circulation of stolen goods. The company stated that it is directly contacting affected customers to provide compensation based on fair market value.
However, the Los Angeles Times reported on the 20th that some victims are expressing frustration because insurance payouts fall short of actual market values, leaving them with substantial financial losses. One victim shared that 104 cards collected over two years were stolen, noting that the insurance payout cap of $156,000 fails to reflect their true market worth.
As of now, no suspects have been arrested and none of the stolen items have been recovered.
