Actor Lee Jong-suk‘s newly transformed visual stills have captured widespread attention ahead of the official release of his upcoming project.
Disney+ original series ‘Remarried Empress’ has unveiled production stills that bring its imaginative romance fantasy universe to life.
‘Remarried Empress’ is a grand-scale romance fantasy epic where Navier (Shin Min-a), the perfect empress of the Eastern Empire, receives a divorce notice from Emperor Sovieshu (Joo Ji-hoon)—who has fallen for the runaway slave Rashta (Lee Se-young). In response, she accepts the divorce and demands approval for her remarriage to Prince Heinrey (Kheinri) of the Western Kingdom, played by Lee Jong-suk.
The newly released stills highlight the distinct atmosphere between the Eastern and Western Empires, as well as delicate details reflecting character narratives and traits, immersing viewers in a high-quality imperial fantasy world. The Eastern Empire exudes a prosperous and stable vibe with warm tones and lush nature, whereas the Western Kingdom presents a cold and angular aesthetic, starkly contrasting the two realms. These distinct spatial designs further amplify the relationships between characters and the unfolding narrative.
Art Director Lee Tae-hoon explained that reflecting each character’s personality and narrative into the spaces was the primary principle, balancing clear distinctions while ensuring they connect organically within a single story. Navier’s space features red and yellow tones with deepening shades to capture the empress’s dignity and underlying solitude, while Sovieshu’s space utilizes blue, green, and black to visualize imperial authority and the heavy weight of the throne.
Director Soo Wan-jo noted that props and costumes were meticulously designed to enhance the reality and immersion of the worldview. Costumes also shift based on character relationships, such as Navier wearing colorful outfits alongside Sovieshu, but opting for subdued, softer tones when interacting with Heinrey.
VFX Supervisor Kim Shin-chul shared that considerable time was devoted to building a believable worldview, ensuring fantasy and reality strike a balanced chord—particularly when bringing Queen, the bird, to life through detailed studies of actual avian behavior in harmony with Heinrey’s appearance.
The breathtaking imperial visuals and meticulous production efforts can be explored in detail through the ‘Special Look’ released on Disney+. ‘Remarried Empress’ will premiere globally on Disney+ with episodes 1 to 4 on Wednesday, November 4, followed by two episodes every week for a total of 10 episodes.
Meanwhile, the new stills featuring Lee Jong-suk transforming into a magnificent bird have sparked immense curiosity. Since the Western Kingdom hails from a family of wizards capable of transforming into birds, fans are eager to see how the on-screen chemistry unfolds, especially with Shin Min-a gently reaching out to the transformed actor.
On the other hand, some viewers have raised concerns over whether the series’ background and setting might veer into the territory of MBC’s reenactment drama ‘Surprise’. Global fans remain highly tuned in to see whether the adaptation will lean toward the prestige of Netflix’s hit series ‘Bridgerton’ or risk falling flat.
