Rick Sung Bribery Case Ends in Felony Plea
Rick Sung bribery case proceedings ended with the former Santa Clara County undersheriff pleading guilty to accepting bribes in exchange for concealed-carry weapon permits, known as CCW permits.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office announced Sept. 21 that Sung admitted to two felony bribery charges under a plea agreement.
Sung was accused of arranging to receive 200 iPads from Apple in exchange for issuing CCW permits to security personnel protecting Apple executives.
He was also charged with helping obtain access to a luxury suite at the home arena of the San Jose Sharks professional hockey team while processing a CCW permit for businessman Harpreet Chadha, who owned the suite.
Under the agreement resolving the Rick Sung bribery case, Sung will be permanently surrendering his California peace officer certification and must complete 400 hours of community service.
