Actress Seol In-ah recently shared her thoughts and experiences regarding the drastic short haircut she debuted for her cross-dressing role in the upcoming drama.
On the afternoon of the 14th, an online press conference was held for the new tvN Monday-Tuesday drama ‘My Guilty Man’. The event was attended by director Park Dan-hee alongside cast members Yim Si-wan, Seol In-ah, Kim Jung-hyun, and Yeonwoo.
‘My Guilty Man’ is a tight thriller romance that follows an arrogant third-generation chaebol pointed out as a murder suspect and a special forces-trained detective who infiltrates his life as a bodyguard.
In the series, Seol In-ah plays Kang Jae-hee, a sergeant from the Republic of Korea Army Special Warfare Command and a police officer with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency’s detective unit. Kang Jae-hee enters the world of Yoon Yi-jun (played by Yim Si-wan) disguised as a male bodyguard.
Reflecting on her bold transformation, Seol In-ah explained, “When I cut my hair for the cross-dressing requirement, it naturally felt unfamiliar, but it made me realize that I was finally ready to become Kang Jae-hee. Seeing a completely different side of myself that I hadn’t witnessed before felt like a great opportunity. I practiced extensively, focusing on the director’s guidance to concentrate on Jae-hee herself rather than overthinking her walk or tone of voice.”>
Co-stars expressed their admiration for her striking visual transformation. Yim Si-wan shared his vivid memory of the moment, saying, “The exact moment she came back after getting her hair cut for the first time remains very strong in my memory. Just by cutting her hair, it felt like Kang Jae-hee was already walking into the room.”>
Despite receiving praise for her handsome visuals, Seol In-ah candidly admitted to experiencing moments of sadness. “Since I was born a woman, a bit of melancholy did creep in at times. However, I kept reminding myself to focus on being Jae-hee. Realizing that it actually helped me immerse deeper into the character made me think, ‘This is comfortable, this is good.’ Since Kang Jae-hee is someone who never pays attention to her appearance and naturally wears her hair short for her intense job, I didn’t attach too much special meaning to the short cut itself,” she added.
The new drama ‘My Guilty Man’ is scheduled to premiere on the 19th at 8:50 PM.
