Seoul National University College of Fine Arts alumni are gathering once again to present an exhibition of aesthetic depth and artistic sublimation. The Southern California Seoul National University College of Fine Arts Alumni Association, led by President Lee Myung-kyu, will host the 22nd Southern California Seoul National University Alumni Exhibition at Chateau Gallery in LA’s Koreatown from the 7th to the 14th of next month.
The overarching theme of this exhibition is ‘Beyond Time.’ Twenty-two alumni artists, who continue to seek new formative languages without settling into complacency long after graduation, will showcase recent works and representative pieces that reflect their accumulated artistic contemplation.
This exhibition features 22 participating artists, including Kang Young-il, Kim Kyung-ae, Kim Kyung-ok, Kim Hye-sook, Noh Sung-in, Park Da-ae, Park Young-goo, Baek Hye-ran, Seo Dong-hyun, Sung Soo-hwan, Shin Jung-yeon, Shim Young-ja, Oh Sung-joo, Won Young-bae, Yoo Bu-kang, Lee Young-hee, Lee Myung-kyu, Jang Won-kyung, Han Seok-ran, Hyun Hye-myung, Hong Sun-ae, and Hwang Young-ae, each presenting diverse perspectives and dense artistic worlds.
The participating artists are veteran and senior figures who transcend the regional boundaries of Southern California, presenting discussions not only through invitational exhibitions in Korea but also in modern art hubs across Europe, such as France, Italy, and Greece. Their works, reflecting the trajectories of life and inner depth accumulated over many years, visually prove the proposition that ‘art has no age limit.’
President Lee Myung-kyu stated, “Art has the sublime power to visualize countless life experiences and intimate confessions while offering new insights toward the world. We hope this exhibition serves as a communicative space for alumni to share the joy of creation and an echoing time for visitors to shed new light on life through art.”
Beyond regular exhibitions, the Southern California Seoul National University Fine Arts Alumni Association has consistently contributed to the cultural and artistic development of the local community. Through various works and exhibitions, they add cultural vitality to the Korean-American community, share Korea’s artistic traditions and contemporary sensibilities with locals, and foster cultural communication across generations.
President Lee expressed his anticipation, stating, “We expect this will be an occasion that demonstrates how art goes beyond simply creating works to record lives, connect people, and enrich the cultural assets of the community.”
The opening reception will take place at 2 PM on the 7th of next month.
