So Ji-sub Heartwarming Gesture: Actor Gifts Gold to 300 Staff Members and Protects Junior Stylist
Beloved South Korean actor So Ji-sub is making headlines for his extraordinary generosity and kindness toward crew members. Alongside his recent multimillion-won personal gift to production staff, a So Ji-sub heartwarming gesture from 25 years ago has surfaced, touching the hearts of fans worldwide.
On July 26, a former junior stylist (Person A) shared nostalgic anecdotes about working with the star early in his career under the hashtag “#StylistStory.”
A 25-Year-Old Memory: Caring for the Youngest Crew Member
Person A, who unexpectedly started working as So Ji-sub’s junior stylist after studying makeup, recalled how the actor went out of his way to make her feel included and protected on set:
-
Attentive Care: So Ji-sub noticed her hard work, warmly remarking, “You put on makeup today!” and promising to buy a 3-month anniversary gift.
-
Shielding from Scolding: When someone urged her to quickly powder his nose on set, she nervously mentioned she might get scolded if she didn’t. So Ji-sub reassured her immediately, asking, “Who? Who is going to scold you?” to put her at ease.
-
Fan Appreciation: He willingly stood up during rest breaks to sign scripts for her friends, expressing genuine gratitude to his team.
“How could I not remain a fan? He was a dependable, supportive older brother figure who cared for even the youngest staff member,” Person A shared.
100 Million Won Pure Gold Gift for ‘Chief Kim’ Crew
This decade-spanning kindness coincides with another viral headline regarding his current SBS drama, Chief Kim.
To celebrate the production’s massive success, So Ji-sub gifted 1 gram of pure gold to all 300 cast and crew members at his own expense—costing approximately 100 million won ($72,000 USD). Each gift included a handwritten message thanking the crew for making the project shine.
This isn’t the actor’s first time gifting gold; he previously presented 1-don (3.75g) gold coins to staff following the wrap of his Netflix series Mercy for None.
Record-Breaking Ratings and Reward Vacation
The SBS Friday-Saturday drama Chief Kim proved to be a blockbuster hit, starting with a 9.5% viewership rating before peaking at an astounding 23% for its finale (Nielsen Korea).
Following the historic ratings success and the So Ji-sub heartwarming gesture, the actor and production team are set to enjoy a well-deserved reward vacation to Guam together.
