Southern California Heatwave and High Humidity Continue
The relentless Southern California heatwave and high humidity will persist through the 10th, but a significant cool-down is on the horizon for the weekend. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), while the peak of the high temperatures occurred on the 9th, insufficient overnight cooling means heat-related risks will remain high. Excessive heat warnings remain in effect until 8 PM for parts of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, and Ventura counties, where daytime highs are expected to reach the mid-90s to around 110 degrees. Weather officials urge residents to limit outdoor activities during the afternoon and stay well-hydrated, paying special attention to vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, outdoor workers, and those without adequate air conditioning.
Dramatic Temperature Drop Expected This Weekend
Fortunately, the oppressive heat will soon break as the upper-level ridge responsible for the heatwave weakens starting on the 11th, leading to a noticeable temperature drop by the weekend. KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo explained that a rapid shift is coming, noting that temperatures could plummet by 15 to 20 degrees within 48 hours, signaling a major change in the weather pattern. This shift will feature an enhanced onshore flow from the coast to the interior and an increase in morning cloud cover, bringing much more comfortable conditions across the region next week. Humidity levels are also projected to drop significantly starting on the 11th, with the NWS forecasting a return of calm and pleasant weather for Southern California in the latter half of the forecast period.
