Singer and actor Yook Sung-jae recently revealed that he could not hold back his anger after hearing an insulting remark about BTOB at an audition.

On the November 5 broadcast of the SBS variety show ‘Geojang Hangjun’, actors Park Min-young and Yook Sung-jae appeared as guests. Unlike Park Min-young, who walked a straight path as an actor, Yook Sung-jae started as an idol-turned-actor. Yook shared behind-the-scenes stories about landing his role as male lead Gong Tae-kwang in ‘Who Are You: School 2015’, a famous pathway to stardom known as the ‘School’ series. Before taking on that drama role, Yook Sung-jae was much better known as BTOB’s youngest member rather than as an actor.

Yook recalled, “When I was greeting them, I said I was an idol. When they asked which group, I said ‘BTOB’, and the director said, ‘BTOB? Total unknowns? What’s the point of doing this?’” He added, “I got so angry and thought saying something like that was just too much, especially to someone working so hard, so my face turned completely red and I walked out.”

However, this turned out to be part of the director’s strategy, and that very reaction helped Yook pass the audition.

Yook surprised everyone by explaining, “It turns out I was cast to play a character with intermittent explosive disorder. Gong Tae-kwang has intermittent explosive disorder. My face turning red and walking out like that ended up working in my favor.”
