A 72-year-old woman who went missing while hiking in a Northern California mountain range has been dramatically rescued several days after falling approximately 100 feet down a steep embankment.

According to the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office and other authorities, Mary Beth Granberry, a resident of Mount Shasta, went camping on the 28th of last month and failed to show up for work, prompting a missing person report on the 2nd.

Authorities launched a search and discovered Granberry’s vehicle the following day near the Cabin Creek Trail, located on the border of Shasta County and Siskiyou County, initiating a large-scale search operation.

Rescue teams eventually located Granberry about 3 miles from the trailhead. It was determined that she had slipped and fallen approximately 100 feet down a rugged slope while walking along the mountain trail.

At the time of her discovery, Granberry was suffering from severe knee injuries and symptoms related to prolonged exposure to the elements, and she was unable to communicate properly. She was subsequently transported to a hospital where she is receiving treatment.

Authorities believe that wearing multiple layers of clothing and experiencing relatively warm weather greatly aided in her survival. A rescue official stated, “It is an extraordinary feat to endure for days outdoors while severely injured.”
