Korean Uber driver shooting Chicago investigations took a major turn after police arrested a teenage suspect linked to last week’s fatal ambush of a Korean rideshare driver.
Chicago police announced Thursday that a 17-year-old high school student was taken into custody in connection with the shooting death of Jason Cho, 38. Authorities, however, have not released the suspect’s identity or additional arrest details.
The deadly shooting occurred May 7 in Chicago’s Garfield Park neighborhood. According to investigators, Cho was driving for Uber with passenger Damarion Johnson, 18, inside the vehicle when multiple men in another car opened fire on them. Cho was fatally shot during the attack.
Victim Was Working Uber as a Side Job
Friends and family members said Cho worked as a financial analyst and drove for Uber as a side hustle.
The tragedy became even more heartbreaking after loved ones revealed Cho had been planning to move in with his girlfriend beginning in June. Community members described him as hardworking and optimistic about the future, making the sudden violence even more devastating for those who knew him. The Korean Uber driver shooting Chicago case has sparked renewed concerns over safety risks faced by rideshare drivers working late-night shifts in high-crime areas.
Meanwhile, Crime Stoppers announced it is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for the shooting.
