The diverse emotions of first love experienced by NCT WISH are delivered through their new release, ‘I SPY’.
NCT WISH released their 4th mini album, ‘I SPY’, across various music platforms. Simultaneously, the sound source and music video for the title track of the same name, ‘I SPY’, were also unveiled.
‘I SPY’ is a dance-pop song featuring a heavy 808 bass and sensory synth layers, standing out as a track that reveals increasingly colorful section changes with each listen.
“I’m curious about a kid like you, all exclamation marks (I spy) / Throbbing to my fingertips, hidden question marks (I spy) / I’ll tell you the secrets I’ve kept hidden too (All night) / Come into my heart, I-I-I spy, I spy”
The lyrics directly express the feeling of all senses turning toward a person the moment you develop a crush, while the repeated use of the phrase ‘I SPY’ conveys the excitement and curiosity of wanting to know the other person, as well as the desire to invite them into one’s own world.
In particular, the honest emotional changes of NCT WISH, who have opened their eyes to first love, are captured within ‘I SPY,’ naturally drawing attention to the energetic members. It feels even more special as an energetic love song sung by the group, who previously conveyed tenderness toward the world in their 1st full-length album ‘Ode to Love’.
The music video portrays the members’ confused feelings upon realizing they are in love in various ways. From members searching for their chaotic emotions to scenes of them showing excitement, curiosity, and flirting after discovering love, the video adds to the viewing pleasure.
Furthermore, the changing melody in the latter half of the song, which heavily pulls the listener in, highlights the differentiating points of the music NCT WISH will show in the future and reminds everyone that they are ultimately ‘NCT’, drawing even more attention.
