Two Korean culinary spots in LA have earned a spot on the latest ‘Best Restaurants in Highland Park’ list compiled by Eater LA, highlighting the growing popularity of Highland Park Korean restaurants.
Eater LA recently released its updated dining guide, featuring the Korean gastropub ‘Yi Cha’ and the dessert cafe ‘Modu Cafe’ among the top local destinations.
Yi Cha is a Korean gastropub operated by Chef Debbie Lee, offering a variety of appetizers and cocktails inspired by Korean cuisine and culture. The name ‘Yi Cha’ originates from the Korean expression for heading to a second location during a night out drinking.
Eater LA highlighted standout menu items such as Korean-style barbecue nuts made with chili powder-dusted walnuts and peanuts, alongside fish jerky grilled over binchotan charcoal. Other notable dishes include Korean fried chicken (KFC) wings glazed with gochujang buffalo sauce, ginger-braised pork, and ‘K-Town Nachos’ topped with cheese sauce.
The beverage menu is managed by Senga Park, formerly of Koreatown’s Tokki, featuring drinks like the ‘Jeju Sunrise’ made with lychee vodka, alongside wine, beer, and soju.
During the day, visitors can also check out ‘Mokja,’ a Korean cafe and market located right behind Yi Cha.
Located on York Boulevard, Modu Cafe originated from baking that owner Jiyoon Chang started as a hobby during the COVID-19 pandemic. After operating as a pop-up, it opened a permanent location in Highland Park, gaining attention for desserts infused with traditional Korean flavors.
Eater LA praised Modu Cafe for its bright, minimalist interior and desserts displayed in the case that look “like works of art.”
Featured menu items include cinnamon rolls utilizing doenjang and honey, gluten-free black sesame mochi cake bars, and perilla leaf lime tarts topped with sugared perilla leaves.
