Singer Ji Soo-yeon recently opened up about her relationship with her Weki Meki members during an interview.

Ji Soo-yeon held an interview at the OSEN office in Hapjeong-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the release of her first EP, ‘Paper Pile’.

‘Paper Pile’ is an album that compares the small, unexpressed emotions felt in daily life to a pile of paper slowly growing page by page. Like folded or crumpled paper left behind, the album captures unexpressed feelings, regrets about past relationships, and emotions that are difficult to sort out.

When asked about the message she wanted to convey through this album, Ji Soo-yeon shared, “It started with the thought that maybe everyone is living with the exact same mindset, and since I’m someone who gets anxious and can’t even start unless I do it perfectly, I wanted to convey that it’s okay to live life even while being a work in progress.”

Asked if there was anyone she particularly wanted to listen to this music, Ji Soo-yeon revealed, “I hope my mom listens to it.”

She added, “Whenever I write songs, like my solo debut track ‘Fish That Left for the Forest’ and ‘Your Book’ from this album, they are heavily influenced by my mom. My mom also sets strict boundaries for herself and tends to get stressed just like me, so I hope she listens to this, lets go of things, and lives comfortably,” showing her affectionate filial side.

When asked how she would describe her music in a single word, she said, “If I had to express my music in colors, I think it carries the image of a mixture of gray and green. The visual image might be bright, but I hope the music itself carries just that kind of depth.”

Ji Soo-yeon explained, “Preparing for this album wasn’t easy because I had to pull out emotions I kept hidden and write them into lyrics. There might have been emotions I didn’t want to face, but I felt that I needed to lay them out so I could feel better, and I thought the listeners could also relate to them.”

Recalling the members’ reactions to her songs, she shared, “I don’t usually play my songs for them first. I don’t even play them for my family. However, I recently finished the musical ‘Caffeine.’ On the final show day, the members came to support me. We spent time talking together until dawn.”

Ji Soo-yeon continued, “We were in contact just yesterday, and we are staying in touch really well. The members always show interest, cheer me on, view my Instagram stories and say, ‘Unnie, are you out? Congratulations,’ remaining a mutually supportive group.”

Meanwhile, Ji Soo-yeon debuted with the group Weki Meki in 2017 and has been active as a solo artist since releasing her solo album last May.
