Red Velvet Joy recently shared her school days, revealing that she used to be an exceptional student. On the November 5 episode of the YouTube channel ‘Life 84’, Joy appeared on a video titled ‘Living and Editing Alone Part 2’ to promote her upcoming drama, visiting webtoon artist and broadcaster Kian84’s studio.
During the broadcast, Joy caught attention by confessing, ‘I decided that if I didn’t pass the audition for SM Entertainment right away, I wouldn’t pursue a career as a singer. Because I studied really hard. My family’s financial situation wasn’t great, so studying hard was the only thing I could do when I was young.’
She added that she used to rank 1st in her class and reached as high as 2nd in her entire school. ‘I had so many worries about the future and started thinking back then, “What should I do to make a living?” Then, during a middle school field trip in the 2nd year, I couldn’t hold back my talent and participated in a talent show,’ she said.
Joy recalled, ‘Everyone said, “Who is she? Why is she showing off like that? Why did she go up there?” But after doing it, I suddenly became a local celebrity. After that, I went around singing everywhere, and my grades started to drop.’
In response, Kian84 guessed, ‘You probably would have done well even if you hadn’t become a singer,’ to which Joy honestly admitted, ‘I think so too. I had a lot of confidence in myself,’ bringing laughter to the set.
