An infant supplement sold online through Amazon and other platforms has been recalled after alcohol was detected in the product.
Recently, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Pacific Health Sciences voluntarily recalled certain lots of the ‘Baby Sleep Gripe Water’ product under the ‘Babies’ Magic Tea’ brand on the 6th.
FDA testing revealed that the product contained three types of alcohol—ethanol, methanol, and isopropanol—which were not listed on the label.
The detected amounts were approximately 8.3% for ethanol, 0.35% for methanol, and 0.48% for isopropanol.
The recalled product is the 4 fluid ounce (fl oz) size with lot number ‘25122bw’ and an expiration date of December 2028. The product was sold in a blue box containing a brown bottle and an oral syringe.
The product was supplied by Secrets of Tea from Pacific Health Sciences and sold through their own website and online distributors such as Amazon.
Gripe water is an herbal supplement sold to relieve infant colic, abdominal discomfort, and fussiness. The recalled product was marketed for use in infants as young as two weeks old.
The company explained that alcohol can impair the normal functioning of the central nervous system and, if exposed to infants, could be linked to long-term developmental issues.
To date, no adverse reactions related to the product have been reported.
The FDA has advised consumers with the recalled product to immediately stop using it, discard it, or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
