California remained a stronghold for the Democratic Party with no major upsets as California Governor Xavier Becerra secured his victory.

In the midterm elections held on the 3rd, Becerra secured 64.59% of the vote (4,306,787 votes) based on a 52% reporting rate as of 11:30 PM, defeating Republican candidate Steve Hilton by a wide margin.

Hilton, who had created a wave during the primary elections, aimed to recapture the governorship for the Republican Party for the first time in 15 years since former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger left office in January 2011, but failed to overturn the sentiment of California voters in the Democratic stronghold.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles mayoral race is showing an ultra-tight margin.

Incumbent LA Mayor Karen Bass secured 50.6% (300,155 votes), narrowly leading Nithya Raman (49.4%), who was backed by the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

In California’s 26th State Senate District, which includes Koreatown, Democratic candidate Sarah Hernandez won 56.5% of the vote, pulling more than 10 percentage points ahead of fellow Democrat Sandra Rascon and securing a likely victory.

In the 54th State Assembly District, known for pro-Korea lawmakers, Assemblyman Mark Gonzalez locked in his victory early with an 81.5% vote share.

In the LA City Attorney race, John McKinney, who had the backing of the Korean American community, lagged far behind Marisa Roy, garnering only 33.7% compared to Roy’s 66.3%.

In the 34th U.S. Congressional District, incumbent Jimmy Gomez (43.23%), who became embroiled in sexual harassment allegations ahead of the midterms, fell behind Angela Gonzalez-Torres (56.77%), leaving his prospects looking grim.
