The small central Illinois city of Carlinville Christmas town has officially been named the ‘Merriest Christmas Town’ for 2026 by Hallmark.
How Carlinville Won the Holiday Title
Following a nationwide search featuring 25 finalists, Hallmark determined the winner through a combination of public voting and judge evaluations, announcing the results during a special event in Carlinville.
Situated between Springfield and St. Louis, Carlinville earned high praise for its historic downtown square, festive holiday lighting, and annual December Christmas market.
Community Spirit and Future Opportunities
Hallmark highlighted the strong community spirit and traditions shared by local shops, restaurants, and residents centered around the historic town square.
Carlinville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kari Dullin noted that visitors have long compared the town’s atmosphere to a Hallmark movie, and the community hopes this national recognition will draw even more tourists.
As part of the honor, Carlinville will have the opportunity to serve as a filming location for future Hallmark Christmas movies, bringing a significant boost to local tourism and businesses.
