Actress Chae Soo-bin recently opened up about the genre-specific concerns she faces as a recognized ‘romance-comedy queen’ during an interview regarding her latest Netflix original series.

During the interview held in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, Chae discussed her role as drama writer Na Bo-bae in the fantasy romantic comedy Charge Me, which follows an artificial heart battery-powered man and a woman with electrical abilities.

Reflecting on why she initially considered turning down the project, Chae admitted, “I had a lot of worries at first. I was concerned about getting trapped in the romantic comedy genre and wondered if I should challenge myself with other genres.” However, she gained confidence after meeting the production team, who reassured her with their strong vision.

She also shared the physical efforts and styling choices she made to portray Na Bo-bae naturally, including opting for casual outfits and frizzy hair to visually represent her character’s static electricity traits.

Addressing her anxieties about typecasting, Chae mentioned receiving advice from her co-star Kim Kwang, who encouraged her to focus on building her skills step-by-step rather than trapping herself in unnecessary pressure. While she still hopes to explore diverse characters in the future, her experience on Charge Me helped her focus on doing her best in the present.
