A 50-year-old woman in Florida was arrested on child neglect charges after leaving her four children home alone for several days to go on a business trip to Las Vegas.
Children Left Alone During Las Vegas Trip
According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Irene Miller (50) left her children, aged 9, 11, 12, and 14, at their Kissimmee home while she stayed in Las Vegas from Sunday to Friday. Miller was reportedly on the trip working as a professional photographer.
The incident came to light when a dumbbell fell onto the 9-year-old son’s head. Another sibling called 911, and responding police confirmed that the children were home without an adult guardian. The injured 9-year-old was treated at a hospital and later discharged.
Investigation and Arrest Upon Return
Miller told investigators that she had arranged for a babysitter to look after the children before and after school, but the babysitter was reportedly never asked to stay overnight. Police subsequently contacted the children’s father, who took all four children to his home.
Miller was arrested by police at the Florida airport immediately upon her return from the trip. She was booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm.
The Sheriff’s Office stated that investigations and prosecutions will continue for cases where parents or guardians fail to adequately supervise or care for their children.
