Group Epik High and Davichi recently sparked laughter by hinting at a ‘joint retirement’ while preparing for their upcoming collaboration album. During the process, they made a playful and shocking proposal that if the album bombs, they will retire, turning the recording studio into a sea of laughter.
On October 12, a video titled ‘Four Married People, One Single’ was released on the YouTube channel ‘Gyang Mingkyung’.
In the video, Epik High members Tablo, Tukutz, and Mithra Jin visited Davichi member Lee Hae-ri’s home to spend a special time together with Kang Min-kyung and Lee Hae-ri.
Notably, the five artists teamed up under the project name ‘Ebichi’, combining ‘Epik High’ and ‘Davichi’ to work on music together. Kang Min-kyung, who stepped up to the microphone first, showed confidence, saying, ‘I will try taking on Kang Min-kyung’s vocal position in Davichi.’ After listening to her sing, Tablo showered her with praise, saying, ‘If this song hits No. 1, it’s entirely thanks to your voice.’
When Lee Hae-ri’s turn came, Tablo repeated the exact same compliment, bringing laughter to the room. He jokingly added, ‘I want that fierce vocal tone you only hear during marital squabbles,’ creating a cheerful atmosphere in the studio.
After wrapping up the music work, an unexpected commonality between Kang Min-kyung and Tablo was revealed. Tablo remarked, ‘Min-kyung and I are quite similar.’ In response, Kang Min-kyung playfully sighed, ‘I couldn’t go to Stanford. Why wasn’t I able to study hard like oppa?’
Tukutz immediately jumped in with a witty remark, asking, ‘Then if you had studied hard, would you have gone to Stanford?’ Tablo also pointed out that he and Kang Min-kyung share the same MBTI personality type, praising her by saying, ‘She’s 100% minimum KAIST material. Extremely smart. ENFP.’
Tukutz also mentioned their similar tendencies, and Tablo agreed, saying, ‘We have overlapping opinions. We just go with whatever is suggested.’ Mithra Jin added to the fun by noting, ‘Kang Min-kyung actually acts on things faster than Tablo can push forward,’ causing an explosion of laughter.
Above all, the highlight of the day was deciding on the album description for ‘Ebichi’. When the Davichi members suggested, ‘Let’s write something cool,’ the Epik High members shot back, ‘We abandoned being cool a long time ago.’ Amid the brainstorming, Tablo proposed a bold promotional phrase: ‘We should write, ‘If this album fails, we’re retiring.’ Kang Min-kyung didn’t back down and chimed in, ‘Let’s phrase it as, ‘Retiring if it fails,’ and we get to decide the criteria for failure,’ filling the room with laughter. Of course, this was not a real retirement plan, but rather a witty joke tossed around while they were brainstorming album descriptions.
Raising expectations with their exceptional chemistry in both music production and witty banter, fans are eagerly anticipating what kind of unique final product Epik High and Davichi will deliver under the name ‘Ebichi’.
