(G)I-DLE member Soyeon recently opened up about the harsh and demanding reality of the K-pop industry, leaving webtoonist and broadcaster Kian84 completely stunned.
On the December 9 episode of the YouTube channel ‘Life 84’ (인생84), titled ‘With Soyeon’, the singer appeared as a guest. When Kian84 expressed his desire to receive a new song for his fictional project, Soyeon bluntly responded, “Being a singer is not an easy job at all. Entering the music charts is extremely difficult. When I was preparing for my solo comeback this time, I literally worked myself to the bone.”>
She continued, “All of my staff worked themselves to the bone together. To barely make things successful in this world through sheer exhaustion, I don’t think it’s right to just hand out any random song. I felt I needed to write a brand new track.” Emphasizing the fierce competition, she added, “Even if you work your hardest, it’s not a matter of whether you’ll succeed or not—there is a 90% chance you simply won’t make it.”
Soyeon also surprised Kian84 by sharing, “I prepared my solo album for five years.” When a shocked Kian84 asked, “You prepared for five years?”, she explained, “I couldn’t release it for five years. I wanted to go solo, but I lacked confidence that it would succeed, and I kept agonizing over how to do it.”
Soyeon concluded by expressing her deep sincerity toward her craft, stating, “But finally, I found a song that I knew would do well when released. That’s why I finally put it out. Because of this process, I honestly don’t know when I’ll be able to drop my next solo project.”
