Gatorade recall — 120,000 Cases Recalled Across 37 States

Gatorade recall

A Gatorade recall involving approximately 120,000 cases has been issued across 37 states, including California, due to undeclared food coloring listed on the product labels.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), PepsiCo recently confirmed that certain Gatorade products contained Yellow 5 and Yellow 6, which were not listed in the ingredients, prompting a voluntary recall.

The FDA classified this recall as a ‘Class II’ event on the 2nd. Class II applies when the use of, or exposure to, the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, but the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

The recalled items total 122,021 cases and include four products in 28-ounce bottles: Gatorade Lemon-Lime, Lemon-Lime Zero, Orange, and Orange Zero.

In addition to California, the recalled products were distributed to a total of 37 states, including New York, New Jersey, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas, and Washington.

While Yellow 5 and Yellow 6 are approved synthetic colorings for food, FDA regulations require them to be clearly stated on the ingredient list when used. Accurate labeling is especially important as these dyes can potentially cause allergic reactions or side effects in sensitive consumers.
