Comprehensive entertainment company Gemstone E&M is stepping into the film and drama production and investment business by partnering with video content production company IMTV.
Gemstone E&M announced on the 2nd that it will pursue a joint video content business with IMTV, starting with co-producing and investing in the first project, the K-occult horror ‘Geumwoldo’.
This collaboration is meaningful as it combines IMTV’s video content planning and production capabilities with Gemstone E&M’s expertise in music, artists, and performances. The two companies plan to organically connect various content fields such as movies, dramas, OSTs, and performances to expand the utilization potential of intellectual property (IP).
‘Geumwoldo’, the first collaborative work between the two companies, is a K-occult horror combining occult, thriller, and action genres. It depicts the story of a protagonist living in Seoul who heads to Geumwoldo, a fog-enshrouded island, in search of their missing mother. It aims to unfold an original worldview centered around a blood-red moon and mysterious entities hidden on the island, infused with Korean sentiment.
Notably, ‘Geumwoldo’ is drawing attention as it is being developed in two formats: a theatrical commercial film and a 6-episode mid-form drama with each episode running for 30 minutes. Among these, the mid-form drama was selected for the IP-secured mid-form category of the Korea Creative Content Agency’s ‘2026 OTT Specialized Content Production Support’ program, receiving production funding. This has raised expectations by laying the foundation to expand a single source IP into various video formats and connect it to subsequent businesses.
Gemstone E&M will participate in the co-production and investment of ‘Geumwoldo’ while also taking charge of the film’s music production. Considering the characteristics of the occult horror genre, where sound and music determine tension and immersion, the company plans to closely integrate video and music from the early planning stages. The strategy is to actively utilize its musical capabilities to enhance the work’s quality and differentiation rather than stopping at a simple investment.
Gemstone E&M currently builds an artist lineup including Danny Ahn, Son Ho-young, and Kim Tae-wu of god, as well as singer Tim. Additionally, the company is rolling out businesses encompassing music, performances, and artist IPs, such as planning and operating the full-group project for first-generation representative girl group Fin.K.L. Starting with ‘Geumwoldo’, Gemstone E&M expects to expand its accumulated know-how in music and performance into the video content production sector, establishing a new business model.
Jason Lee, Group Head of Management at Gemstone E&M, stated, “‘Geumwoldo’ is more than just a film investment; it is the first step for Gemstone to participate as a production agent for video content. By combining IMTV’s video production capabilities with Gemstone’s music and artist IPs, we will design video and music together from the planning stage and create a business model that can expand into various contents.”
Collaborative partner IMTV is a creative group consisting of competent writers, creators, directors, and PDs. Having produced around 50 regular programs, 100 documentaries, and 10 dramas and films, IMTV has consistently collaborated with domestic and international broadcasting stations and platforms.
Meanwhile, ‘Geumwoldo’ has completed casting major star-level actors. Specific production news, including the cast lineup, will be released sequentially.
