A Korean-American federal employee has been named the USACE Manager of the Year by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The U.S. Army announced on the 27th of last month that Ji-sun Kang (43), Chief of the Contracting Division for the Far East District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was selected for the honor in recognition of her exceptional work performance and leadership.
Kang, who works at Camp Humphreys in South Korea, was recognized for successfully managing contracts worth approximately $265 million and introducing innovative contracting methods.
During the 2025โ2026 evaluation period, Kang handled a total of 15 major contracts. Notably, she led a $200 million construction security monitoring service contract. She also spearheaded a pilot project utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in contracting operations, drastically cutting down document drafting and review times.
Kang is a veteran with 24 years of military-related experience, having enlisted in the Air Force at age 19 and worked as an analyst for defense contractor Lockheed Martin.
In an interview on the 28th, she shared her thoughts, saying, “While I have participated in many projects over the past 24 years, the most rewarding thing is building an organization where colleagues trust and grow together. This award is also thanks to the hard work of my colleagues.”
