IFA 2026 Kicks Off in Berlin with Physical AI
Europe’s largest home appliance and IT exhibition, IFA 2026, has officially opened its doors in Berlin, Germany, bringing together approximately 1,900 companies and brands from 49 countries under the powerful declaration ‘The Future Is Now.’ The core of this year’s exhibition is artificial intelligence embedded deeply into everyday life, moving far beyond basic connected appliances to proactive physical AI and humanoid robots that anticipate and execute tasks.
Life Lindner, CEO of IFA, emphasized that technologies like AI ovens, smart dishwashers, and air purifiers are designed to give people more time to focus on what truly matters, a sentiment vividly showcased across the exhibition floor.
South Korean Tech Giants Unveil AI Home Ecosystems
Representing South Korea with the largest exhibition footprint at IFA 2026, LG Electronics is captivating visitors with its comprehensive ‘AI Home’ ecosystem spanning a massive 3,745 square meters. LG debuted its execution-focused AI agent, ‘ThinQ Claw,’ built into the ‘ThinQ On’ AI home hub, which understands user life patterns to suggest and execute necessary functions even when users are away. LG also introduced highly energy-efficient European-targeted appliances that outperform top A-ratings by up to 70%.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics relocated its main exhibition space to Berlin’s Humboldt Carré, focusing on ‘AI Living.’ Samsung highlighted its ecosystem across entertainment, home, and self-care, featuring the Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator with advanced food recognition cameras, high-efficiency laundry units, and Vision AI Companion TVs.
The End of Housework and Rising Global Competition
Traditional European manufacturers are aggressively joining the AI race, with German premium brand Miele boldly declaring ‘The End of Housework is in Sight.’ Miele introduced its G8 dishwasher equipped with its first-ever AI camera to recognize dish placement and soil levels, alongside the ‘CulinaryCoach’ AI assistant.
Competition from Chinese manufacturers has also intensified dramatically at IFA 2026, with a record 932 Chinese companies—accounting for nearly half of all participants—showcasing their latest innovations. Notably, Xiaomi is making its debut with its ‘Human x Car x Home’ ecosystem, aiming to capture the European market as the event runs through September 8.
