K-Pop Fanomenon Awards: South Korea Unveils 1 Trillion Won Mega-Festival Plan

South Korea is launching a historic, mega-scale initiative hailed as K-pop’s ultimate answer to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The government-backed K-Pop Fanomenon Awards project—bringing together the country’s four largest music agencies—is set to debut in December 2027 with a projected economic impact reaching 1 trillion won ($680 million).

Co-chairs of the Presidential Committee on Popular Culture Exchange, JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin-young and Culture Minister Chae Hwi-young, officially revealed the ambitious roadmap during a press conference in Seoul on Monday, July 27.

4 Major Agencies Unite: HYBE, JYP, SM, and YG Join Forces

In a unprecedented milestone for the music industry, HYBE, JYP Entertainment, SM Entertainment, and YG Entertainment have established a joint venture to co-produce the K-Pop Fanomenon Awards.

Key details of the inaugurating 11-day event (running Dec. 2–12, 2027) include:

  • Venue: The newly built Seoul Arena in Chang-dong, set to become Korea’s largest K-pop venue with a 20,000-seat capacity, alongside additional stages at Kintex in Ilsan.

  • Economic Scale: Anticipating over 520,000 total attendees, including 200,000 international tourists.

  • 11-Day Program: Featuring four days of award ceremonies interspersed with massive multi-day concert lineups and cultural industry expos.

A World-First Concept: Awards Given to the Fans, Not the Artists

Setting itself apart from traditional music award shows, the K-Pop Fanomenon Awards will present its trophies directly to the dedicated fandoms rather than the performers themselves, though artists will accept the physical honors on their fans’ behalf.

Using a rigorous data-driven metric currently in development, the event will crown the top 10 most passionate fandoms, with the ultimate title awarded as the trademarked “Fandemonium.”

“The four major agencies have launched a joint venture to work together as one team,” said Park Jin-young. “Our shared goal is to seize this moment for K-culture and ensure its global momentum lasts as long as possible.”

From Seoul to Los Angeles: Expanding into a Global Festival

Following its inaugural Seoul awards show, the project will officially expand into a global touring festival model.

The first international edition of the Fanomenon festival is slated for Los Angeles in May 2028, with plans to establish permanent K-culture centers worldwide. With government support and the entire K-pop industry aligning behind one banner, the K-Pop Fanomenon Awards is set to redefine the global music festival landscape.
