Two KT-1 trainer collision incidents involving South Korean Air Force aircraft from the 3rd Training Wing were revealed to have occurred.
According to the Air Force on November 1, the incident took place around 9:17 a.m. on September 1 near the Sacheon Air Force Base in Gyeongsangnam-do, when the wing of a landing KT-1 trainer made contact with the fuselage of another aircraft of the same type.
The Air Force explained that both aircraft successfully made emergency landings afterward, and no injuries were reported among the pilots. However, minor damage to the fuselages and wings was reported.
Attributing the cause to a pilot’s failure to maintain proper forward vision, the Air Force referred the related personnel to a disciplinary committee.
The KT-1 trainer is the same aircraft model that previously experienced a fatal mid-air collision during a training flight, resulting in the deaths of all four people on board, including a student pilot and a flight instructor.
The Air Force stated that investigation details regarding this mid-air collision have been disseminated to flight units through inspection channels to prevent any future accidents.
