Starting today, drivers violating traffic laws at major intersections across Los Angeles, including LA speed cameras installed in Koreatown, may be caught on enforcement cameras.
According to the Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), enforcement has initially begun at approximately 20 locations throughout the city. These include intersections near Koreatown such as 8th Street and Magnolia Avenue, La Brea Avenue and 1st Street, Fairfax Avenue and Clinton Street, Melrose and Hayward avenues, and La Cienega Boulevard and Pico Boulevard. Certain segments of Sunset, Olympic, and Venice boulevards are also included in the enforcement zones. Fines will be assessed on a sliding scale depending on the severity of the speeding violation, reaching up to $500 for speeds exceeding 100 mph.
However, the first 60 days will serve as a grace period, during which warning notices will be mailed to violators instead of fines. Actual financial penalties will begin to be issued starting in late December.
