Actor Lee Jong-suk is currently drawing massive attention for his role in the hit series ‘The Remarriage of Empress’, while anecdotes from his time serving as a social service agent are being re-examined.
Recently, online communities have been buzzing with posts detailing Lee Jong-suk’s experiences during his alternative military service. Lee began his service on March 8, 2019. Having suffered a severe traffic injury to his cruciate ligament during middle school, he received a Grade 4 ruling during the physical examination and fulfilled his military duty as a social service agent rather than active duty, ultimately being discharged on January 2, 2021.
During an interview after his discharge, when asked about the most memorable civil complaints he received, Lee shared, "There was a very unique person. Right at the beginning of my service, a civil petitioner recognized me and would always sit in the civil service room before I even arrived at work, staying until I left. It felt like they were watching to see if I arrived on time and was doing my job properly."
Addressing playful remarks that he must have enjoyed special privileges due to his celebrity status, Lee laughed and explained, "It was surveillance. They were checking whether I was coming to work properly and doing my job right. They were like the town watchman monitoring a celebrity’s service. But I really worked hard."
