The New York Korean Association announced that starting in November, it will increase its number of part-time and intern staff while hiring exclusively 1.5-generation and second-generation individuals for its secretariat.

Expanding Next-Generation Staff

The association stated, “Currently, the secretariat employs three 1.5- and second-generation staff members, including the deputy secretary-general, and all finance department personnel are of the 1.5 generation. We plan to hire additional 1.5- and second-generation interns by the end of this year.”

Establishing a 1.5-Generation Committee

The organization also noted, “To build a robust network of 1.5-generation Koreans in their 40s and older who are active across various fields in the community, we plan to launch a 1.5-generation committee composed of 40 to 50 members during November.”

Bridging First and Second Generations

Furthermore, the association emphasized that building a network of middle-aged and older 1.5-generation Koreansβ€”who deeply understand both the first and second generations and act as bridges between themβ€”is crucial. Through this network, the association aims to foster greater unity within the Korean American community.

Expectations are high for the upcoming ‘Next Generation Korean Connect Event’ hosted by the Consulate General on November 19, which is anticipated to serve as a vital venue for network building. Additionally, the association currently operates a second-generation-focused next-generation committee with about 60 members and plans to host a next-generation leadership conference involving over 200 participants in December.
