Pianist Hyoungji Choi will present an audience-interactive performance titled ‘Feel, See, Listen’ at 7 PM on the 22nd of this month in the ballroom of the Tempe Center for the Arts, Arizona.
This performance is a differentiated stage that combines classical piano performance with new media art and direct audience participation. The audience participates in the performance by using a remote control to directly adjust the sharpness of blurred images presented on stage. Through this, they expand the personal impressions and interpretations they thought of while listening to music into a visual experience.
The program consists of various ‘dances’ from six countries: Spain, Poland, Hungary, the United States, South Korea, and Austria. New media artists Michael Kaminer and Tommy McPhee will join to add sensory visual images and real-time audience reactions to the piano performance.
Hyoungji Choi has continuously pursued original planning stages that diversely connect music with other senses.
In South Korea, she presented ‘Letters Delivered by Music,’ where the audience writes postcards while thinking about their past, present, and future, and at the BΓΆsendorfer Salon in Vienna, Austria, she staged ‘Scents of Sound,’ combining music and fragrance.
Majoring in piano performance and musicology at Seoul National University, Hyoungji Choi earned her master’s degree from Arizona State University.
She is currently enrolled in the doctoral program in piano performance at the same graduate school and is in charge of piano instruction and ensemble coaching for students.
