State Representative Sam Park Georgia House Democratic whip expressed overwhelming excitement after securing a historic sixth consecutive term in the midterms held on the 3rd.
Born in Georgia in 1985, Park first ran for the 101st District in 2016, defeating three-term Republican incumbent Valerie Clark by a narrow margin of 460 votes. A decade later, he achieved a resounding victory with 71% of the vote against Republican challenger Murray Berkowitz, comfortably returning for his sixth term. He has consistently maintained over 60% of the vote since 2018.
Attending the Democratic watch party at the Atlanta Hyatt Regency Hotel, Park reflected on ending the Republican trifectaβwhere the GOP controlled both the governorship and the state legislature for over two decades. He stated that everyone endured a long, dark night and expressed gratitude to Korean American voters who participated to usher in a new day. He also celebrated the return of healthcare and housing policies aimed at the middle class.
Highlighting the need for change, Park pointed out that Republicans completely controlled Georgia for the past 23 years and failed. He noted that the American dream has become harder to reach, with soaring costs for food, fuel, and daily necessities while only the wealthy benefit. With Democrats reshaping state government and legislative power, Park aims to leverage his position as caucus whip to steer the legislature in a fresh direction.
