Samsung executives recently met with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to discuss the future of corporate management and AI-driven transformation strategies.
Samsung announced that it hosted an invitation-only executive seminar featuring Altman at the Samsung Human Resources Development Institute in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province. Over 50 key executives from electronics, finance, biotech, and other affiliates gathered under the theme “The Next 10 Years Changed by AI: Corporate Choices.” Building on its integration of AI competency evaluations for employees, Samsung is further strengthening executive education to accelerate its enterprise-wide AI transformation (AX).
The meeting focused heavily on the future direction of AI technology, newly emerging markets, and business opportunities. Participants examined the impact of AI on corporate decision-making and organizational operations, while also discussing essential competencies for modern leadership. Samsung organized the event to enhance the AI literacy of its executive team and shape future management strategies.
Samsung and OpenAI have continued close cooperation centered on AI infrastructure. In October of last year, Samsung Electronics signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with OpenAI to collaborate on global AI infrastructure development, pushing to supply memory semiconductors for the “Stargate Project,” OpenAI’s major data center network construction initiative.
Additionally, Samsung SDS agreed to cooperate in AI data center construction and enterprise AI services, while Samsung C&T and Samsung Heavy Industries joined forces for the joint development of offshore floating data centers. In July, Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited OpenAI’s headquarters in San Francisco.
Prior to the executive seminar, the leadership team participated in a hands-on generative AI training sessionโtheir second major intensive program following an initial workshop in June. Executives practiced organizing scattered business data with AI to build personalized “knowledge repositories” and applied these tools to decision-making processes, sharing use cases across affiliates. The session focused on helping management directly experience AI tools to apply them practically in everyday operations.
Educational programs are expanding to include general staff as well. Following the executive training, Samsung rolled out educational programs for approximately 2,300 corporate officers and plans to complete AI training for all employees by February 2027. Affiliates are establishing dedicated AI task forces and expanding the corporate use of external generative AI services.
These dedicated organizations establish tailored AX strategies suited to each company’s business characteristics while supporting data and AI model operations and applications. Samsung plans to review performance across affiliates, solidify implementation tasks, and firmly establish an AI-centric management framework.
