A mixed-use development featuring 124 affordable housing units, medical facilities, and job training programs is set to be built near Union Station in Downtown Los Angeles.

According to real estate media outlet Urbanize LA, the nonprofit California Endowment and affordable housing developer LINC Housing held a ground-breaking ceremony on the 6th for the ‘Robert K. Ross, M.D. Center for Healing and Hope’ at a vacant lot located at 800 N. Main St. near Downtown LA.

According to the development plans, the complex will feature 124 affordable apartments along with 66,000 square feet of medical and social welfare facilities.

The apartments will be supplied to households earning between 30% and 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI).

The development site spans approximately 2 acres and is within walking distance of Union Station.

The project will be carried out by constructing the medical and welfare facilities first. The residential facility will rise 7 stories high, while the medical facility will stand 2 to 4 stories tall.

Construction on the residential facility is scheduled to begin in 2029, with the completion date also targeted for 2029.

This development project aims to help former inmates and vulnerable populations successfully integrate into the community by providing affordable housing and medical and social rehabilitation support facilities around the Men’s Central Jail.

The new complex’s medical and welfare facilities are slated to house healthcare services, job training, and programs supporting the social reentry of former inmates from the nearby Men’s Central Jail. St. John’s Community Health will be in charge of providing the medical services.

Brenda Solorzano, CEO of The California Endowment, emphasized, “This center is a complex that combines affordable housing with health and welfare services, representing a new approach centered around housing, health, and providing opportunity.”
