The Santa Monica neon sign, an iconic 85-year-old landmark of the Santa Monica Pier, has been temporarily removed for restoration work.
Installed in 1941, the historic sign was taken down recently as part of the pier’s bridge replacement project. The sign has been transported to a specialized restoration facility in Las Vegas, where it will undergo neon tube repairs, rust removal, and repainting.
Once restored, the sign will be reinstalled at the entrance of the pier in 2028 when the new bridge construction is completed.
