Reuniting after 10 years, Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin are set to captivate viewers in a tense new psychological thriller. One of them is lying, setting the stage for an unpredictable narrative.
On the afternoon of the 28th, a press conference for the new MBC Friday-Saturday drama ‘Liar’ was held at the MBC building in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. Director Cho Young-min, along with actors Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin, attended the event to share insights about the series.
‘Liar’ is a psychological thriller that follows two people holding completely opposite memories of a single event, clashing fiercely in search of the truth. Featuring the intriguing premise that one of the protagonists is lying, the drama aims to deeply engage viewers through an unpredictable and bold narrative.
A 10-Year Reunion and Chemistry
This project marks the first time Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin have worked together since ‘Dr. Romantic’ 10 years ago. When asked about their second collaboration, Yoo shared, “Our fans wanted to see us reunite. It was so meaningful to meet again after a decade, and during our first shoot, I wondered why it felt so natural and fun instead of tense or awkward.”>
He added, “Since we know each other well, share great memories from 10 years ago, and I recently worked with Director Cho Young-min, the filming set was thrilling and engaging.” Seo Hyun-jin echoed these sentiments, noting that they didn’t need an ice-breaking period and felt as comfortable on day one as if they had already completed several projects together.
Approaching a Heavy and Suspenseful Subject
Regarding concerns about the heavy subject matter, Yoo explained, “This project made me question what criteria we use to believe someone’s truth. I wanted viewers to observe the character Min-jun-ho closely and decide for themselves who to trust.” Seo Hyun-jin also emphasized that the core purpose was exploring the lies themselves, hoping the drama sparks meaningful conversations long after the credits roll.
MBC’s new Friday-Saturday drama ‘Liar’ premieres on the 30th at 9:50 PM.
