The movie Assassins (directed by Hur Jin-ho | starring Yu Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, Lee Min-ho | produced by Hive Media Corp | provided/distributed by Hive Media Corp) has maintained its position as the number one Korean film at the box office even in its sixth week of release.

Assassins achieved the remarkable feat of staying at the top of the Korean box office for a sixth consecutive week.

According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing network, Assassins recorded a cumulative total of 3,382,132 moviegoers as of 7:00 AM on Tuesday, October 27, securing the top spot in the Korean box office rankings. After successfully beating out new weekend releases in its fifth week to reclaim the top spot, it drew attention by refusing to relinquish the number one position on Monday, October 26, the first day of its sixth week.

An industry representative stated, “The foundation of this long-term box office success lies in favorable reviews from both domestic and international audiences regarding its solid cinematic quality.”

Assassins follows the suspicion and pursuit surrounding the assassination of the First Lady, an event that shocked the Republic of Korea on August 15, 1974.

Following its runner-up win for the International Audience Award at the 51st Toronto International Film Festival and its selection as the opening film for the 37th Singapore International Film Festival, Assassins is also slated for screening at the 21st Paris Korean Film Festival on Tuesday the 27th. Critics note that the film’s internationally and domestically recognized cinematic quality is driving its box office momentum.
